🧵 About Our Fabrics
Wipe clean tablecloths are made from a range of materials depending on the type and are then coated to resist spills and stains.
The most common types are:
- Acrylic coated – cotton, poly-cotton or linen or mixed fabric thats coated with a protector like Teflon and then acrylic coated on top for a natural, fabric-like look.
- Oilcloth – cotton fabric with a clear PVC coating for a glossy or matt, waterproof finish.
- Vinyl (PVC) – fully synthetic, non-woven backing, flexible PVC plastic with a wipeable surface.
Each offers different levels of softness, protection, and style.

The main difference is in the coating and feel:
- Acrylic coated tablecloths keep the texture of real fabric with a soft, matte finish and subtle water and stain resistance.
- Oilcloth tablecloths have a glossy PVC layer on cotton — tougher and fully waterproof, but less natural in feel.
- Vinyl (PVC) tablecloths are entirely plastic with a soft backing — the typical “plastic feel” and look you are familiar with. Ideal for a low cost option.
Each type balances look, protection, and flexibility differently.

- Not all wipe clean fabrics look or feel like plastic.
- Acrylic coated tablecloths keep the natural texture of woven fabric and have a soft, matte finish — they’re ideal if you want a more “fabric” look.
- Oilcloth and vinyl options have a shinier surface and a smoother, more traditional wipeable feel.
- Yes — all our wipe clean tablecloths are non-toxic and phthalate-free, making them safe for use around children and pets.
- Our acrylic coated tablecloths are also OEKO-TEX® Standard 100 certified, meaning they’ve been independently tested and proven free from harmful substances.
- They’re easy to wipe clean, helping to keep mealtimes and play areas hygienic.
- All fabrics can withstand normal exposure to sunlight.
- Prolonged, everyday exposure to direct (UV) sunlight may cause colours to fade over time.
- If the tablecloth will be kept in constant sunlight, we recommend choosing a lighter design so any fading is less noticeable.
- Acrylic coated tablecloths have a stain-resistant coating, like Teflon, that helps prevent marks and makes everyday spills easier to clean.
- Oilcloth and vinyl tablecloths are not stain-resistant, but wiping spills quickly will usually prevent staining.
- As with any fabric, strong staining agents left long enough can still penetrate the surface — no wipe clean fabric is completely stain-proof.
